The “Old Hundred” mine is located minutes away from the historic town of Silverton, which is just 23 miles north of the Silverpick Lodge on the San Juan Skyway. The one hour guided mine tour takes you 1/3 of a mile inside Galena Mountain, where you follow a gold vein, and learn how mining was done at the turn of the century. The Mine features a gold panning area that is free with the purchase of a tour, a drink and snack area and a gift shop full of souvenirs, books and postcards.

Trimble Hot Springs has an Olympic sized swimming pool that is maintained at 86 degrees Fahrenheit, and is equipped with a shallow area for kids. In addition it has an adult area with two soaking pools heated to higher temperatures. Trimble is located 7 miles north of Durango off HWY 550 on C.R. 203. Their expanded spa is now open with massage and treatment rooms and a private outdoor therapy pool exclusively for spa guests.

The Ute Mountain Tribal Park offers Native American guides who will take you on a tour of pictographs, petroglyphs, artifacts, dwellings and geological land formations. The half-day tour visits Ancestral Pueblo petroglyphs, scenic lands, Ute pictograph panels, geological land formations and surface sites. All sites on the half day tour are within a short walking distance of the gravel road.

Mesa Verde contains exquisite ruins of the Anasazi pueblo inhabitants that lived in the area between A.D. 600 and 1300.. The easiest way to see Mesa Verde is to drive all the way back to the museum, tour the museum then take the short hike down to Spruce Tree House Ruin. If you plan on visiting any of the larger cliff dwellings, you must purchase a ticket for the ranger-guided tour. Tour space is limited and tickets are sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. Other sites in the park are available on a self-guided basis.
